The Rules of the Road Course is approved for USCG personnel DWO certification and all Deck Officer approved courses.  It occurs as “Week A” in the Deck Officer curriculum for mariners taking our approved courses (Master/Mate 100/200, OUPV, Master/Mate Fishing). Class Hours: 8:30 – 4:00 All textbooks supplied.

This Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA) class satisfies the STCW requirement for Officer training.  ARPA, like ECDIS, is a “negative endorsement.”  A mariner whose STCW credential makes no mention of ARPA has met the ARPA requirement.  The credential of a mariner who has not taken an approved ARPA course will read “not valid for ARPA-equipped vessels.”

Chart Navigation is Week B of the Deck Officer course cycle.  The week covers working with buoyage and aids to navigation, piloting, instruments, tides, currents, chart projections, publications, compass error and magnetism.  The week is required for Deck Officers taking approved courses.  It is also part of the Deck License Preparation Course and the first of the two weeks of the STCW Terrestrial Navigation Course.
