Authority
The Designated Duty Engineer credential is issued with three levels of horsepower limitations. The DDE can only serve as the engineer of record on vessels less than 500 GRT. The DDE Any Horsepower may act as engineer on any waters. The DDE 4000 HP and 1000 HP allow the holder to serve as Chief Engineer on Near Coastal and Inland Waters. Note that successful completion of our approved Designated Duty Engineer Class satisfies the requirements for the examination for DDE of limited horsepower.
